Charles Henry Thomas, Jr.

Funeral services are planned for Charles Henry Thomas, Jr., 78, of Shuqualak on Saturday, May 11, 2013, at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Bro. Payton Myers and Rev. Andy Pearson officiating. Interment will be in Shuqualak Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 9-11 a.m. at the fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice. Charlie was born on August 19, 1934, to the late Charles Henry, Sr. and Mary Anderson Thomas in Meridian, MS. He was a 1951 graduate of Shuqualak High School and a 1955 graduate of the University of Mississippi. After college, Charlie owned and operated a successful appliance business in Birmingham, Al. In 1972, he moved to Shuqualak to help expand the family lumber business, Shuqualak Lumber Co., Inc. Today, the company is one of the largest family owned lumber operations in the southeast. Charlie served as president of the Mississippi Lumber Manufacturers Association and president of the Southeast Lumber Manufacturers Association. Technically retired, Charlie came to work every day until his recent illness. Charlie was known to his family and friends as “Big Daddy”. He had many passions in his life outside of work. His main passion being his love for his family. He also enjoyed spring turkey hunting, deep sea fishing and was an avid pilot for many years. He was a member of Elon Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Timothy H. Thomas

Survivors include his wife: Carolyn R Thomas of Shuqualak, MS; daughter, Lisa T. Hunter (Robert) of Macon, son, Charles Henry Thomas, III (Lisa) of Starkville, MS; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; brother, William A. Thomas of Shuqualak, MS; two step-sons, Kenneth Crawford Misso(Melissa) and Charles Philip Misso (Amanda) both of Macon, MS and two step-granddaughters
