Patrick Henry Gill, Jr. M.D., 86, of Macon, MS passed away on March 3, 2013 at Darlington Oaks in Verona, MS. Dr. Gill was born on October 19, 1926 to the late Patrick Henry, Sr. and Velma Smith Gill in Pineville, MS. He graduated from Puckett High School and later from Jones County Junior College, the University of Mississippi, and Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, PA. He interned at Crawford Long Memorial Hospital (now Emory) in Atlanta, GA. He arrived in Macon on June 29, 1955 to set up his family practice clinic where he practiced medicine for over 41 years, retiring at the age of 70 due to poor health. Prior to continuing his education after high school, Dr. Gill served in the U.S. Navy. He was transferred into the See-Bees (Construction Battalion), trained and stationed in Hawaii for three months, and then was shipped to the Philippines for several months and then on to North China.

Dr. Gill became a born again Christian on October 4, 1958 and was a longtime faithful member of First Baptist Church in Macon. He served as Deacon and as an adult Sunday School teacher. Dr. Gill took an active part in medical mission trips to Honduras, Haiti and Uganda with Global Outreach as well as two trips with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board to India.

Dr. Gill was preceded in death by his parents; his sister: Fannie Lou Gill Salter; and his brother: Thomas Joseph Gill.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years: Mary Nell Guy Gill; children: Carol Gill, Janet Gill, Edna Diane Gill Racine (Frank), Patrick Henry Gill III M.D. (Nancy), Velma Lynn Gill Geer (Alan), Steve Brown (Kristi), Stephanie Brown, Mary Elizabeth Gill Bonds (Scott), and Alice Gill as well as seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Macon, MS with Dr. Tommy Jarrett officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 1-3 p.m. The family requests no flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 510, Macon, MS 39341, Community Hospice, P.O.
