Warren Earl Hummer

January 10, 1917 — February 4, 2013

Warren Earl Hummer, 96, went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 4, 2013. He died at Winston Medical Center in Louisville, following a brief illness.
Mr. Hummer was born January 10, 1917, in Prairie Point, MS, the fourth child of Glenn Edwin Hummer and Mary Helen Jackson Hummer. He graduated from Mashulaville High School and attended East Mississippi Junior College and Mississippi Southern College.
After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he returned to the family farming operations in Prairie Point. On July 13, 1947, he married Edith Ware McLeod of Macon, MS, and they became the parents of three daughters.
Farming was his occupation and his passion. In the early years, he worked alongside his father and brothers in the commercial bee business started by his grandfather, both producing honey and exporting bees all over the country. In addition to crop farming and tree farming, he also had a dairy farm and raised cattle. His main hobby was gardening, and he was known for sharing his abundant produce with friends and neighbors.
Mr. Hummer was a member of the Noxubee County School Board for many years, serving as President for some time. He also served on the Soil and Water Conservation Board and was a member of the Noxubee Historical Society. He was a member of X-Prairie Methodist Church for many years, and later Independent Methodist Church, where he served on the Board of Stewards.
A man of strong convictions and firm beliefs, Mr. Hummer was soft-spoken and chose to lead by example. His life was testimony to the fact that happiness is grounded in faith in God and time spent with loved ones. He was a family man in the truest sense, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He lived in Prairie Point on the family land he cherished until 2003, when he and his wife moved to Louisville, MS to be closer to their daughters.
Mr. Hummer was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Glenn Edwin Hummer, Jr. and Charles Vernon Hummer; his sisters, Margaret Hummer Carter, Mildred Hummer Anderson, and Eunice Hummer McCollum; and his grandson, William Hummer Pieralisi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years; his three daughters, Nancy Hummer Peters (Glenn), Ann Hummer Woodson (Jim), and Alice Hummer Pieralisi; seven grandchildren, Pamela Peters Bixler (Gaillard), Judith Peters Rogers, Caroline Peters Montgomery (Ben), James Glenn Peters, Jr. (Larkin), James Randall Woodson, III (Shannon), Benjamin Warren Woodson (Anna), and Anna Pieralisi Humbarger (Brad); twelve great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at the Independent Methodist Church in Macon, MS, followed by interment at Odd Fellows Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Pallbearers are James Randall Woodson, III, Benjamin Warren Woodson, James Glenn Peters, Jr., Walter Gaillard Bixler, Jr., Benjamin Brook Montgomery, and William Bradley Humbarger.
Memorials may be made to Independent Methodist Church, P. O. Box 421, Macon, MS 39341.
