Ray Butler, 73, of Shuqualak, MS passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. His funeral service will be held Friday, November 23, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. from Cockrell Funeral Chapel in Macon, MS. Bro. Matthew Green and Bro. Gerald Butler will officiate at the service. Interment will follow in Shuqualak Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until service time Friday at the funeral home. The family requests that no flowers be sent but instead please send all memorials to Central Academy P.O. Box 23, Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with the arrangements.
Ray Butler was born on April 14, 1939 to the late Henry Hurbert and Christine Presley Butler. He was a graduate of Shuqualak High School and served in the U.S. Army and U. S. Army Reserve in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. On December 23, 1966, he was married to the former Miss Brenda Thompson, who survives him. Ray was a heavy equipment operator and mechanic who had worked for Presley Construction Company of Shuqualak, Waters Truck and Tractor in Columbus, and for B & W in West Point. He was widely known as a very generous man who actually would, as the saying goes, “give you the shirt off his back”. Ray attended Shuqualak Baptist Church and always enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother: Jimmy Butler; and also by twin infant brothers.
Ray Butler was survived by his wife: Brenda Thompson Butler of Shuqualak, MS; one Daughter: Julie Butler (Justin) Moffett of Macon, MS and one Brother: Jerry Butler (Gayle) of Meridian, MS as well as two much beloved grandchildren: Hannah and Parker Moffett.
