Mrs. Doris U. Thomas, 79, of Wahalak, MS passed away at her residence amid her family and friends on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012. Mrs. Thomas, daughter of the late Spivey Wesley and Lois Jackson Upchurch, was born on January 22, 1933 in Macon, MS . She attended county schools in Noxubee County. She was married to her husband, Earl Thomas, for over 60 years. Mrs. Thomas was a lifelong member of Wahalak Baptist Church. She was a telephone operator for South Central Bell for several years. She enjoyed gardening, but her favorite pastime was visiting with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thomas’ funeral service will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon on Wednesday November 14, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Walt Tessier officiating. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Kemper County. A period of visitation will be held Wednesday morning from 10:00 A.M. until service time at the funeral home. Any memorials may be made to the Antioch Cemetery Fund % Citizen’s Bank of Scooba, MS Attn: Andrew Dabbs.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by her husband: Earl Thomas of Wahalak, MS; one daughter: Robin Thomas Calderone of Pike Road, AL. ; and two sons: Mike Thomas of Lauderdale, MS and Terry Thomas of Wahalak, MS as well as by 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 sisters: Hellon Carlin of Debarry, Fla.; Shirley Evans Clarkville, TN, and Martha Nell Tucker of Brentwood, TN.
