Hazel Sledge

Mrs. Hazel M. Sledge, 91, of Macon, MS passed away on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 24 from Macon Presbyterian Church at 2:00 P.M. with Dr. Bill Duncan and Rev. Ricky Glenn officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. A period of visitation will be held from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are requested to be made to Central Academy P.O. Box 231 Macon, MS 39341 or to Palmer Home P.O. Box 746 Columbus, MS 39701. Cockrell Funeral Home Inc. of Macon is entrusted with the arrangements.

Mrs. Sledge was born in Pontotoc County, Mississippi on October 8, 1920 to the late William Boyd and Effie Lillian McCarver May. She was a graduate of Thaxon High School. She was married to Broox Sledge and in 1945 they moved to Macon where they made their home until her death. Mr. Sledge preceded her in death in 2002 and she was also preceded in death by her brother Ralph May of Pontotoc. She was a member of Macon Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She was a loving mother and grandmother who always put her family first.

Mrs. Sledge is survived by one daughter: Judy S. Gaither of Macon, MS as well as by three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also left to mourn her passing is one sister: Mrs. Virginia Caldwell of Houston, MS.
