Mr. Jerry W. Adams, 65, of Shuqualak, Mississippi passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Aurora Austrailis Nursing Home in Columbus, MS. His funeral service will be held on Friday, July 20 at 1:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS with Bro. Jimmy Guy and Bro. Allen Eaves officiating. An interment service with military honors will follow at Butler Cemetery near Shuqualak. A period of visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Any memorials may be made to the Butler Cemetery Fund C/O Willis Jones 991 Johnny Higginbotham Road Shuqualak, MS 39361. Cockrell Funeral Home Inc. of Macon, MS is entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. Adams was born in Gordo, Alabama on November 10, 1946 to the late Willard and Allah Mae O’Bryant Adams. He graduated Gordo High School and served with the Army National Guard. He was employed with Alabama Power Company as a lineman. He met his wife-to-be; Patricia Adams of Shuqualak, MS, and they were wed on July 9, 1971. He worked for a number of years at Taylor Machine Works in Louisville, MS and later at Synergy Gas Company, after which he was self-employed. He was a member of Butler Pentecostal Church, where he worked diligently to help establish the Christian school. He later became a member of Macon Pentecostal Church. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife of 41 years: Patricia, of Shuqualak, MS as well as by one daughter: Amy Adams, also of Shuqualak. He is also survived by two sons: Willard Adams of Macon, MS and Robert Adams of Shuqualak and by five grandchildren. Also left to mourn Mr. Adams’ passing are three sisters: Janie Haden of Columbus, MS; Sandra Studyvin of Birmingham, AL; and Mary Davis of Gordo, AL.
