Irma Lee McCullough Wilkins died June 22, 2012 after an extended illness. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brooksville Cemetery in Brooksville, Miss. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, Miss. is entrusted with the arrangements.
Mrs. Wilkins was born in Lee County, Miss., on September 13, 1914. The daughter of the late Charles Lee McCullough and Sadie Wilson McCullough, she graduated from Verona High School and Memphis Business School. She married Joseph Tyson Wilkins, Jr. of Brooksville, Miss.; and they made their home in New Albany, Miss.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of New Albany and was church secretary for several years. She retired from the Department of Human Services of Mississippi after sixteen years of service.
Mrs. Wilkins was preceded in death by her husband: Joseph Tyson Wilkins, Jr.; two sisters: Lucille M. McFarling and Alice M. Stevens; a brother: James Merle McCullough; and a nephew: James Bryce McFarling.
She is survived by a son: Joseph Tyson Wilkins, III and his wife Anne of Jackson, Miss.; three grandchildren: Allison Wilkins Alford (Patrick) of Raleigh, NC, Joseph Tyson Wilkins, IV, of Birmingham, AL, and Emily Holland Wilkins of Oxford, Miss.; and a great-granddaughter: Shelby Anne Alford of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her beloved sister: Syvera McCullough of Corinth, Miss.; and her niece: Bobbie McFarling of Huntsville, AL; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family would like to thank her friend and caregiver in New Albany, Mrs. Maurice Spears. For the past year, Mrs. Wilkins had been a resident at The Arbor in Ridgeland, Miss. and the family wishes to thank all of the aides and nurses for their care and attention.
