Marcell P. Wright

Mrs. Marcell P. Cates Wright, 91, formerly of Columbus, MS, passed away on Friday, June 8, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle Hospital in Columbus. Her funeral service will be held at 11:30 A.M. on Monday, June 11, 2012 at graveside in Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon. Bro. Glen Miller will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Any memorials may be made to the Columbus Humane Society P.O. Box 85 Columbus, MS 39703 or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave 7th Floor New York N.Y. 10001. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Wright was a native of Carroll County, Ms, born on January 9, 1921 to the late Calvin A. and Matilda Elizabeth Cates. She was educated in local schools there and then married Alfred Wright, who also preceded her in death. She was a house wife and homemaker who later owned and operated “Poodles and Pals”, a pet shop in Columbus, MS, for many years. She enjoyed working with pets and also flower gardening. She was a very talented crafts-person who made some extraordinary ceramic pieces. She was a longtime member of First Assembly of God Church in Columbus. She was the last surviving member of her siblings.
She is survived by her two sons: Alfred Wright of Macon, MS and Richard Wright of Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
