Tom C. (Tommy) Mitchener, 85, of Macon, MS passed away Friday, April 27, 2012 at Elderly Care Center
In Macon, MS. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Oddfellows Cemetery in Macon, MS with Bro. Peyton Myers and Bro. Allen Mapp officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
Mr. Mitchener was born on November 7, 1926 in Chickasaw County, MS to the late William Oren and Nannie Kate Grady Mitchener. He grew up in Crawford, MS. He was a graduate of Brooksville High School. After graduation he entered the U.S. Navy having served in World War II in the Philippines. He returned home from the war and attended East Mississippi Junior College. He married Sara Bess Wilson in 1947 and helped with the family dairy business. They moved to Brooksville where he and Sara Bess operated the telephone office. They later moved to Macon where he became employed with Four County EPA where he worked for 35 years having retired as a district manager. He was a member of Elon Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and hunting. He is preceded in death by his parents, spouse; Sara Bess Mitchener; sister, Doris Mitchener; and two brothers, John Ed and Bob Mitchener.
Survivors include his daughter: Thelma M. Cox of Macon; son: Johnny Mitchener of Macon and sister: Mildred White of Clinton, MS. He had two grand children Beth Mitchener and Colby Cox.
