Mrs. Schmidt was a Montezuma, Kansas native, born to the late Andrew B. and Susie Jantz Unruh on April 21, 1915. She was married for seventy-four years to the late Ivan Schmidt, who preceded her in death in 2009. She was the last one of her family surviving after her parents immigrated to America from Russia. She and her husband lived in Winton, California and for many years in Fredonia, Kansas. They were members of the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite and were very active in church life and outreach. One of Mrs. Schmidt’s primary concerns in life was for her family’s salvation and Christian walk in life, for which she was often in prayer. In later life Mr. and Mrs. Schmidt moved to Clarksdale, MS to be nearer to their children, and in 2003 moved to the Oakwood Manor nursing home in Brooksville, MS. She was a humorous and witty person who made friends easily.
