John A. Hailey, 68, of Shuqualak, MS. passed away Monday, October 24, 2011 at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 27, 2011 at 11 a.m. at Shuqualak United Methodist Church. There will be a private interment for family only. Visitation will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39701. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hailey was born on May 19, 1944 to the late Roy Wade and Virgie Mae Fleetwood in George West, Texas but was a lifetime resident of Shuqualak, Miss. He was a graduate of Macon High School. He worked as a bread salesman for Smith’s Bakery until he retired. He was a member of Shuqualak United Methodist Church. He was a member of White House Hunting Club and was an avid MSU Bulldog fan who supported all the collegiate sports programs there. He often planned his vacation around trips to Omaha, Nebraska and the College World Series. He was known as “Sweet Roll” to his friends and fellow hunting club members. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
His survivors include his wife, Ruby R. Hailey of Shuqualak, MS; 2 daughters, Libby Woods of Athens, GA and Angie Rosamond of Preston, MS; son John Andy Hailey, Jr. of Huntsville, Al; sister, Addie Jo Mask of Brooksville; brother Roy F. (Bill) Hailey of Brooksville, MS; 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
