Mrs. Marie Carr, 88, of Macon, MS passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Noxubee General Hospital. Her funeral service will be held Tuesday, July 12, from Macon Presbyterian Church at 11:00 A.M. with Bro. Ricky Glen officiating. Interment will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday at Cockrell Funeral Home, which is entrusted with the arrangements. Any memorials may be made to Palmer Home in Columbus, MS.
Marie Dinsmore Carr was born on August 6, 1923 to the late James Augustus and Mattie Alphise Morgan Dinsmore in Noxubee County, MS. She attended grammar school at the community school near the McLeod Community before graduating from Macon High School. She also attended East Mississippi Junior College. While she worked at the Noxubee County Courthouse in the Chancery Court office for Mr. Vernon Adams, Mrs. Carr’s greatest joy in life was taking care of her childhood sweetheart and best friend, William Emmett Carr, whom she wed on March 18, 1943 while he was on leave from the U.S. military. She loved being a housewife, home maker, and mother to their two daughters and also enjoyed movies and traveling with her family and friends. She had a keen interest in politics and political races. Mrs. Carr was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and by one brother, James Sidney Dinsmore.
Mrs. Carr is survived by her two daughters: Kaye Carr Hummer and by Mary Ann Mitchell (William) as well as by her sister-in-law: Mrs. Phyfa Dinsmore. Also mourning her loss are six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
