Edmon C. Patterson

Mr. Edmon C. Patterson , 84, of Brooksville , MS passed away at Noxubee General Hospital on July 7, 2011. His funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, July 10 at First Baptist Church in Macon, MS with Dr. Bill Duncan and Bro. Byron Pickering officiating. Interment will follow at Ellison Ridge Cemetery near Louisville, MS. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Cockrell Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church P.O. Box 510 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Patterson was a native of Gholson, MS and a graduate of Central High School near Gholson. 1n 1944, before he graduated high school, he joined the U.S. Army where he served as a Sergeant in the Ordnance Medium Automotive Maintenance Company. Assigned to the Panama Canal Zone, he was in charge of the Maintenance shop. Mr. Patterson received the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge in 1946, he returned to Gholson and completed his high school education. He married the former Peggy Eaves on April 27, 1947 and they soon moved to Ohio where he was employed by the Monarch Rubber Plant for 16 years. In the early 1960’s they returned to Macon where he was employed at Senter’s Hardware while he pursued a degree from East Mississippi Junior College. In 1969 he bought a small grocery store near the old railroad depot which became Patterson’s Grocery, a business from which he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Sower’s Sunday School class at First Baptist Church and also was a member of the Brotherhood there. While he enjoyed gardening and all types of sports, he was an avid fisherman who used his Land o’ Lakes membership to full advantage. He was a welcome guest in private ponds and lakes all over East Mississippi.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his wife: Peggy, of Brooksville as well as by three sons: James Edmon Patterson (Cathy) of Delaware, Ohio; Michael Dewey Patterson (Gail) of Birmingham, AL.; and Gary Wayne Patterson (Jan)of Corinth, Ms. Also left to mourn his passing are two brothers: James Earl Patterson (Carolyn) of Akron, Ohio; L.J. Patterson, Jr. (Frances) of Preston, MS; ten grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; one sister: Ollie Mae Higginbotham and two brothers: Edward and Elbert Patterson

Funeral services will be held Sunday at First Baptist Church in Macon, MS at 3 p.m. Interment will follow in Ellison Ridge Cemetery in Winston County.
