Visitation for Mrs. Georgia Alice Britton Taylor will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the Central Academy high school library. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from Macon Presbyterian Church, with graveside services held from Soule Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery. The Rev. Phillip Palmertree, Rev. Russell Mord and Rev. Ricky Glenn will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P. O. Box 746 Columbus, MS 39701, Central Academy Library, P.O. Box 231, Macon, Ms 39341 or to Macon Presbyterian Church 313 N Washington Macon, Ms 39341. Those serving as active pallbearers will be Tommy Glenn, Walter Taylor, Jim Taylor, Bill Willcutt, Tiny Heard, Jr., and Bill Bell. Honorary pallbearers will be “Mama Taylor’s Senior Boys”.

Mrs. Taylor, a proud Noxubee County native and former school librarian, died Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Noxubee County General Hospital. She invested 41 years of her life as an educator. She served as school librarian at Central Academy from 1968 until 1986 and at B.F. Liddell Middle School from 1986 until her retirement in 1997.

Born on January 28, 1933, in Macon, MS, she graduated from Noxubee County High School in 1950 and from Mississippi State College for Women in 1954 with a B.S. in Library Science. She married Robert C. Taylor in 1953 and was a member of Macon Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Taylor enjoyed learning and teaching. She often used travel to accomplish her educational goals. During the years of her service at Central Academy, she led many of her students to Europe. After retirement, Mrs. Taylor continued to travel with friends. She spent many hours volunteering in the community and enjoying her family.

She is survived by her son, Robert C. “Bobby” Taylor, Jr., and his wife, Judy, of Ocean Springs, MS; sister, Jane B. Glenn, and her husband, Hayden, of Huntsville, AL; grandson, Robbie Taylor and his wife, Kristy, of Crawford, MS; granddaughter, Bebe Willcutt and her husband, Bill, of Houston, TX; and great-grandchildren, Brooks, Kate, and Neil Taylor and William Willcutt.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. Taylor, Sr.; son, Gerald Taylor; father, Edwin Holman Britton; and mother, Maria Lucas Britton.

Mrs. Taylor was active in the civic and religious affairs of her community. She was a member of various organizations including Junior Auxiliary, Ageless Wonders, Women’s Study Circle, Noxubee Historical Society, and Colonial Dames. She had served as state chaplain for the Daughters of the American Revolution and as organizing president of the Mashulitubbee Chapter of Colonial Dames XVII Century. In 2003, Mrs. Taylor was chosen as the Noxubee County Chamber of Commerce’s Woman of the Year.
