Nannie George Robbins

Mrs. Nannie George Robbins, 93, of Macon, MS. passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at her residence. Her memorial service will be held Friday, April 29, 2011 at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Macon, MS. with Dr. Bill Duncan officiating. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.o. Box 510, Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Robbins was born on October 5, 1917 to the late Walton and Kittie Taylor. She was a graduate of East Miss Junior College. She became a school teacher and taught at the Little Red School House in the Salem Community. She was married Carl Simpson who preceded her death. She was a bookkeeper at Southland Motor Company. In 1967 she married James W. Robbins at which time she began working part time at the Macon Beacon. After Mr. Robbins passed away, she became co-editor of the newspaper until her retirement. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution and the Order of Eastern Star. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, crocheting and reading.
She is survived by her sister: Ethel Outz of Macon, a brother: Robert Taylor of Macon; 2 grandchildren, Rebecca Sims and Jim Robbins of Macon; and 2 great grandchildren Danielle and Samantha Sims of Macon, MS. She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Carl Simpson and James W. Robbins, a brother, Charlie Taylor, a sister, Louise Freshour and step son James K. “Jimmy” Robbins.
