Shirley Seals Hailey

Mrs. Shirley Seals Hailey, wife of Kent Hailey of Macon, MS. and mother of Ken Hailey of Preston, Ms. passed away suddenly from complications of surgery at University of Alabama- Birmingham Medical Center on Sunday, April 17, 2011. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 18, 1959 to the late Arthur Clifton and Lillian Cole Seals but was reared in the Nanih Waiya community of Winston County, MS., moving there when she was four years old. She graduated from Nanih Waiya High School and later from Mississippi State University with a degree in Data Processing. Mrs. Hailey had worked at the Merchants and Farmers Bank (now Bankfirst) in Macon for over 20 years before retiring from the Data Processing Department. She and her family moved to Macon in 1998, where she was very active with Central Academy as well as with her church, First United Methodist Church. She was always a staunch supporter of Mississippi State University and the Bulldogs. Even though she had suffered with the pain and discomfort of rheumatoid arthritis for over 29 years, due to her deep Christian faith, she always had a smile on her face and always kept a good outlook on life. She a very creative person who really enjoyed sewing, most especially for her friends and family. She looked forward to spending time with all her family members, whom she dearly loved. Her special joy, though, was doing things for her husband and son, who were the light of her life and around whom her life revolved.
Mrs. Hailey is survived by Kent, her husband of over 30 years, and her son, Ken Hailey as well as two sisters: Linda Johnson of Liberty, MS and Evie Miles of Louisville, MS and also two brothers: Clifton Seals, Jr. of Fort Worth, Texas and Tommy Seals of Louisville, MS. She is also survived by a sister-in-law: Karen Corkern of Baton Rouge. LA. and a brother -in-law : Rhett Hailey of Germantown, TN. Also left to mourn her passing are nieces Danyle Sanders, Denice House, Georgia Johnson, Hannah Miles, and Ann Katherine Hailey as well as nephews Chris Corkern, Marc Corkern, Ryan Hailey, John Michael Hailey, Christopher Hailey, and Matthew Hailey. Also remaining are a great nephew: Landon House, and a great neice: Bailey House
Shirley Lillian Hailey’s funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Macon on Wednesday, April 20, at 2:30 P.M. with Rev Bob Whiteside and Rev. Andy Pearson officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hailey-Richey Cemetery near Preston, MS. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 9:00 P.M. at Cockrell Funeral Home in Macon. All memorials are requested to be made to Central Academy P.O. Box 231 Macon, MS 39341. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon is entrusted with the arrangements.
