Mrs. Vera Sanders Hamill, 99, of Macon, MS gently departed this life on March 22, 2011 at Noxubee County Nursing Home. Mrs. Hamill, a native of Longview, MS, was the daughter of the late H.T. and Carrie O. Lee Sanders. She graduated from Longview Boarding School and later married Vester Hamill of Sturgis, MS. They lived in Longview until 1952 when they moved to Macon, MS. She was a housewife and homemaker who enjoyed cooking, gardening, and especially enjoyed visiting and talking with all of her family and friends. She was a sweet Christian lady who was devoted to her Lord and to her beloved Calvary Baptist Church, of which she was a longtime member. All of her family, friends, and church family will miss her smiling face and happy disposition. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as by 1 grandson: Michael Davis Hamill.
Mrs. Vera’s Home-going Celebration Services will be held from Calvary Baptist Church on Saturday, March 26, at 3:00 P.M. with Bro. Greg Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Salem Cemetery near Macon, MS. A visitation will be held for her friends and family from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mission effort of your choice. Cockrell Funeral Home of Macon, MS is entrusted with services.
She leaves to mourn her passing two daughters: Mrs. Kitty Page of Columbus, MS and Mrs. Colleen H. Higginbotham of Macon, MS as well as three sons: Leo Hamill of Macon, MS; Jerry Hamill of Chapin, South Carolina; and Ralph Hamill of Pascagoula, MS. Also surviving her are 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
