Mrs. Wilma B. Wood, 88, of Macon, Ms passed quietly away Friday, March 4, 2011 at Noxubee General Hospital Nursing Home. Mrs. Wood was a longtime resident of Columbus, MS but had lived in Macon for the past several years. Her funeral services will be held Monday, March 7 at Cooksville United Methodist Church with Bro. Glenn Miller officiating. Interment will follow the service at Cooksville Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church for family and friends. The family requests NO FLOWERS, PLEASE. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 8th Ave 7th Floor, New York NY 10001.
Mrs. Wood was born October 4, 1922 in Cordova, Alabama to the late Enoch and Martha Satterfield Bishop. She was reared in Carrollton, MS where she graduated high school. She was a longtime resident of Columbus, MS before moving to Macon, MS. She was a member of Steens Baptist Church. She was a seamstress and waitress as well as a homemaker. She was a very talented person who wrote poetry and songs and even had a song recorded. She also enjoyed making dolls. She was the world’s best mother and grandmother.
She leaves to celebrate her home-going two daughters, Carolyn Wright and Debbie Delk both of Macon, MS; two sons, Russell Whary of Ootewah, TN and David Wood of Orlando, FL; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Also a best friend, Jean Barker of Indianopolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings as well as by three sons and one daughter.
