Mr. A. Rex Parker, 95, of Brooksville, MS gently passed away Monday February 21, 2011 at Trinity Place Personal Care Center in Columbus, Ms. His funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23, at 11:00 A.M. at Brooksville Baptist Church with Bro. Danny Avery officiating. Interment will follow in Brooksville Cemetery. A visitation from 10:30 A.M. until service time will be held for family and friends. The family requests NO FLOWERS, PLEASE. Mr. Parker was the son of Oscar Young and Minneola Murphree Parker and was a native of Big Creek, MS where he graduated high school. He had been a resident of Noxubee County since 1945. He owned and operated Rex Parker Plumbing and Electric Appliance store in Brooksville for over 50 years. He was also a farmer, involved in beef and dairy cattle and cotton farming and was very involved in community affairs, including the Noxubee County Soil Conservation District and the Rotary Club. He served on the Board of Directors of the Federal Land Bank in Louisville, MS and later in Starkville, MS. He was a longtime member and Deacon of Brooksville Baptist Church.
He never complained about the fortunes of life, even when he was caring for the needs of his wife, who suffered with Alzheimer’s disease for many years. He persevered throughout his life and had a great attitude until the very end.
He was predeceased by his parents; his step-mother: Obera; his wife, Essie Cannon; one son, Bill; and by 3 brothers: John Sidney, Isham M., and Tom Hill Parker .
Mr. Parker is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Dorothy Nell Holmes of Fairhope, ALA and Mrs. Lynn Parker Black of Starkville, MS. He is also survived by one son: J. Rex Parker of Tupelo, MS as well as one sister: Mrs. Florence Caldwell of Oxford, MS. Also left to mourn his passing are 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
