Mrs. Lela Erlene Card Misso, 76, of Wahalak, MS passed away Monday, January 10, 2011 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, MS. Her funeral service will be Friday, January 14 from Cockrell Funeral Home Chapel in Macon, MS at 10:00 A.M. with Bro. Larry Smith and Bro. Jack Sellers officiating. Interment in Mohegan Cemetery near Shuqualak, MS will follow the service. A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Misso was born on December 13, 1934 in Shuqualak, MS, one of eleven children born to the late Thomas Johnson and Vera Mae Prysock Card. She graduated from Shuqualak High School and lived in the Macon, MS and Wahalak, MS areas all her life. She was a Registered Dietician at Noxubee General Hospital in Macon for many years. She was a member of Wahalak Baptist Church.
Mrs. Misso was an avid sports fan who watched any sport that was on T.V., but she especially enjoyed watching the Manning brothers play football. She herself enjoyed playing basketball. She also enjoyed watching the game show channel on T.V. She enjoyed being outside, working in her garden and more importantly, fishing. She would fish all day, even when the fish weren’t biting. Her children would ask to go home and she would reply: “Not yet, the fish will bite soon!” She was a very good cook who also enjoyed canning and sewing. Her sons will always remember that she taught them to be independent and to provide for themselves. She was a wonderful friend who reached out to everyone in need, whether it be a comforting word, monetary aid, or spiritual support. She always tried to do her part to help.
She is survived by her husband: Thadis (Red) Misso of Wahalak, MS. She is also survived by three sons: Tim Jewell and John Jewell, both of Macon, MS and Doug King of Philadelphia, MS as well as by two step-sons: Danny Misso of Louisville, MS and Leon Misso of Wahalak, MS. Also left to mourn her passing is one sister: Mrs. Ruth Stone of Wiggins, MS and two brothers: Lawrence Card of Shuqualak, MS and George Prysock of Wiggins, MS. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and by one son: Tommy Jewell.
